If you wish to inject adventure, the wild and exotic to your home interior, an African safari theme is the best choice. It is an all-encompassing design that meets all three. Africa is a sought-after place by many travelers, an ultimate getaway. Using an African-inspired theme to your home is as close as you can get to being in the vast lands of this continent, surrounded by the colors of nature and the sights that one can only describe as amazing.
Earth tones from the jungles of Africa like black, gray and deep brown are just some of the colors you can use. Other hues that will make great accents are orange from the sunset, light to deep pink from the sunrise, blue from the endless sky and green from the trees and plants. It’s hard to put into paint the rich wonder of Africa, those colors that are seen in person, especially if two or more shades blend, but applying the basic colors can transform your space into an African wonderland.
Animals are the quintessential elements to incorporate in an African theme. Of course, putting a real lion or a cheetah in the living room is far-fetched (don’t even try it), but having animal prints is like the real thing. Fabrics with tiger prints, leopard prints or zebra prints is a close encounter with the African wild, just like having a safari. Add in some plants and bamboo furniture or decors and the look is awesome.
Animal prints are widely available in area rugs as well. You shouldn’t go without this one decorative item. An area rug placed with a group of furniture will instantly highlight the furniture pieces. An area rug displayed in the center of the room is a real eye-catcher. A rug under a table, a drawer or an artwork can either accent the piece or enhance the area. Caring for an area rug is also effortless. It is very easy to maintain and most materials are long lasting.
Finishing touches through decorative items symbolizing Africa and its culture are real winners in this decorating project. You don’t have to put big pieces if you have none. Simple items will do. To give you some ideas – a woven basket and a wooden carving of a lion for instance, will enhance the living room. A simple couch will look exotic with an animal print fabric draped stylishly over it. Bathroom essential containers with wooden and stone carvings of animals will add a touch of Africa to your bathroom. A miniature piece of an elephant (or other wild animals) displayed in your bedroom will go well with your animal print beddings.
Africa may be a continent away, but with some key decors and prominent jungle colors, you can have your own safari adventure right in your own home.
