The keys using memory exercises to retain powerful memories

Perhaps you’re not aware but over the next 3 days hours youre going to forget most of what youve learned over the past 24 hours! So what can be done to improve this situation?

There is no magic potion, no one amazing drug, no one amazing activity nor no one stunningly effective brain game that will help to keep your memory in perfect order.

Beyond the absolute basics of supporting your memory, i.e.: not smoking, eating a well balanced diet and getting a good night’s sleep, there are five habits that if persistently worked at can seriously help to support the development of your memory.

But be aware no one activity is going to suffice, only by practicing a mix of activities will the benefits be felt. The five key activities you should engage in are these:

1. Engage in regular aerobic exercise;

2. Engage with people, remain intellectually & socially active;

3. Be more alert as you go about your everyday life.

4. Focus hard on what you want to memorize;

5. Visualize & develop emotional responses to support the development of vivid memories;

If you want to build a better memory you absolutely must become more active; the benefits of exercise to the proper functioning of the brain go well beyond memory improvement;. Undertake up to 60 minutes aerobic exercises at 3-4 days a week, It needn’t be hard graft, sustained walking or swimming work wonderfully; but whatever you do don’t lead a sedentary life.

Get out and about with friends; remain intellectually active. Talk to people about new things; perhaps a book youve read, a film you saw, a trip your planning. Research suggests that by simply meeting on a regular basis with different people, engaging in a social discourse and partaking in mentally stimulating activity reduces the risk of developing Alzheimers symptoms.

Regularly doing both physical exercises and intellectually stimulating activity in tandem is very powerful. Physical exercise helps create new neurons [nerve cells in the brain] whilst intellectual activity assists in the survival of those neurons by building up synapses.

To improve your memory it helps to be alert. Become more alert to things that are going on around you and be especially alert to what it is you want to remember. If you’re not really paying attention then its no surprise that its soon forgotten!

You absolutely must get focussed. Getting focused is an extension of being alert. Once you know there is something you want to remember then its important to use one or more memory exercises to plant that memory in your brain. A powerful way to do this, as opposed to dedicated memory exercises such as pegging, where you link familiar things with things you want to remember, is to focus on using all your senses to support your memory.

The more senses you are able to use when trying to remember something, and the stronger your focus on using these senses, the stronger will be the memory! So, for better memories use your eyes, ears and sense of touch and consciously focus on using them to reinforce a memory.

It really helps greatly if you canvisualize & develop emotional responses to support the development of vivid memories. When something is important that you dont want to forget use your powers of visualization to create vivid, action packed memories using some form of storyline to hold the parts together.

If this seems onerous worry not, start by trying things one idea at a time and go forward step by step. The more you can do, and the more persistent you are, the greater will be the benefits you will enjoy. Just as you can’t get fit with one training session so it is with these suggestions; persistence is the key. Keep using them day by day, soon they will become a natural part of your everyday life; stop using them and things will deteriorate!
