Secured Loan Debt Consolidation

If you are having problems paying your debt and are thinking about getting debt consolidation you need to know what is debt consolidation and how can it help you.  There are two different types of loans you can get.

The first type of loan is called an unsecured debt consolidation loan.

It is when you do not have any assets applied to the loan for collateral.  Your credit rating usually has to be high to obtain a good rate with this type of loan.  Sometimes the lender will accept bonds, stocks, jewelry, or other personal assets to secure this type of loan.

A secured debt consolidation loan is a loan used with collateral.  Lenders will be more likely to give you a good rate and terms depending up on the assets used for collateral.  If you have real estate or anything of value you can use as collateral you will get a lot better interest rates and terms for your new consolidation loan.

With a secured loan the lender can take control of any of the assets you use for collateral.  If you do not pay and default on payments then the lender can take possession of your property.

If debt consolidation is something you are considering you are probably having issues with your bills.  If this is the case then you may be taking a road to bankruptcy.  In this case your assets will be collected after bankruptcy anyways.

Of the two loans you will get a lot better interest rates and terms on your loan with a secured loan than an unsecured.  However, even an unsecured loan may help you out of your financial difficulties.
