If there is one thing I have been trying to do more than anything else over the last 10 years, it has been to stop smoking. I actually started my nicotine addiction about 20 years ago but for a long time I didn’t think I was really addicted and was under the illusion that I enjoy inhaling burning tobacco smoke. As I started to get into my mid twenties it become obvious that I was’t going to be able to stop without a fight. And seeing as I was not as young as I used to be, I realized that continuing to smoke was going to have a negative effect on my health if I didn’t quit soon.
The first attempt to give up was, as you have probably guess, terribly unsuccessful. I was full of bravado whenI made the anouncement that I was going to give up, throwing the cigarettes in the bin and telling everyone I was now an ex-smoker. Of course, after the initial buzz of thinking i had stopped I quickly began craving nicotine and realizing that this wasn’t going to be as easy as I had anticipated. I was back on the tobacco within three weeks.
Over the years I tried all manner techinques that I thought might help me get over my addiction. I read numerous books, tried hypnosis and a multitude of nicotine replacement therapies, all with the same dire results. Even now I am still addicted to nicotine, I have found product that allows me to get my fix without many of the dangerous substances in tobacco. Its called an electronic cigarette, and its a relatively new tobacco replacement product that is easily available on the Internet. Its too that if you use one of these you are still going to be addicted, but at least you will be doing less harm to your body in the process, and you can even use them in most places where cigarettes have been banned.
If you are struggling to quit but really can’t find the willpower, you might want to give e cigarettes a shot too.
