How To Lose Weight by Changing Your Eating Habits
Introduction: Losing weight is never easy, that’s why a lot of people choose the easy way out and try quick solutions. However, You can permanently lose weight with natural methods, and this can start by changing the way you eat. While it may take some time and effort on your part, the results that you will get will all be worth it eventually.
Difficulty: 3
Things You’ll Need: a note pad, small sized plates, measuring cups and spoons, strong personal drive
Step 1. Clean up your refrigerator and pantry. Oftentimes, the things that make you fat are just hiding in your refrigerator. If you live an unhealthy lifestyle, then chances are, your refrigirator would be unhealthy, too. So, if there’s one place where you should start your weight loss endeavor, then it definitely is in your refrigerator. This holds true with the pantry as well.
Step 2. Rearrange the contents of your refrigerator or your pantry in such manner that you don’t immediately see all the unhealthy foods. If you want to, you can even chuck them out and throw them away. The main premise is that by arranging your refrigerator and/or pantry in a way that the unhealthy foods are kept from immediate sight and are replaced with healthy foods, there’s a bigger chance of you not eating them everytime hunger calls out.
Step 3. Stock Up On Healthy Items. Of course, if your refrigerator doesn’t contain healthy food, then it’s high time that you start filling it up with healthy products such as fresh produce, whole grain varieties of food, low fat items and the like. To do so, start by making a list of what you need to buy at home. Take a look at your list to see if you can replace some unhealthy items with healthier alternatives. Bring your list with you the next time you do the groceries.
Step 4. Develop Smart Shopping Habits. When you shop for food, make sure that you follow your list strictly. This helps you make sure that you don’t become tempted to hoard your cart with unhealthy food items. Of course, it also pays that you learn to read labels when you shop. Reading and comparing labels is one of the healthiest and wisest thing any shopper can do – and you should learn to do it as well.
Step 5. Once you’ve filled your kitchen with healthy foods and ingredients, you already have everything you need to prepare healthy snacks and meals. Remember the best ways to cook food is without oil – so instead of frying food, stick to other cooking methods such as grilling, broiling, roasting, steaming or baking foods. Of course, don’t forget that you can also serve food raw. For seasoning and condiments, stick to herbs and spices instead of the usual calorie – laden creams and seasonings.
Step 6. Of course, the step that follows preparing food is serving it, and serving food is just as important as preparing it. You should serve and eat meals in small and controlled potions so as to avoid eating too much. If it helps you, make use of smaller plates and measure food with measuring cups or spoons. Stock some pre – cut fruits and vegetables and place them strategically in your refrigerator so that they are the first thing you see once you open it. This way, you can readily grab a healthy snack to eat when you’re hungry.
Tips – Do the groceries with a full stomach. This helps you avoid the temptation of grabbing all sorts of food items and stuffing them into your cart.
- Start grocery shopping at the produce section. This way you start filling your cart up with healthier foods, and will have lesser space for the unhealthier and tempting items.”
- Pre – cut fruits and vegetables, and store them at eye level inside the refrigerator. This way, you can readily grab a bite to eat when hunger calls and it’s not yet meal time.
Warnings – Remember that you’ve been developing your eating habits ever since you were a child, and because of this, these habits are among the hardest to break. To avoid getting discouraged with your efforts, avoid the monotony by preparing a wide variety of healthy meals. Check out recipes from books and from the internet and try them out. Remember that healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring!
