Hair salons date back to the beginning of time probably. Women have always loved getting pampered and spoiled. This nature of pampering is much needed as a woman experiences many burdens that men do not. If you can make your customers feel special, especially women then you are on the path to having major success.
Your front line is the face of your business. Having someone who is happy and positive to answer the phone is extremely important. This is the first exposure a client has to your business and will set the tone for their experience.
You need to have someone who can keep your place neat and tidy. Have plenty of toiletries in the bathroom and make sure it is spic and span. Create the environment of cleanliness and you will please your customers.
Having the right manager that develops people and has a positive attitude is crucial. If you have a steer driver as a manager then people are going to pick up on the negative vibes. You want someone that truly loves people and the co-workers. You want someone who values relationships more then production.
To talk or not to talk that is the question. Have you ever had that awkward silence before? Some people are talkers and other people just want to come in and relax. Feel the customers vibe and adapt accordingly. A noisy environment will turn some people off and others are looking for a quiet sanctuary. Make sure you create both of these environments for each of these kinds of people.
Make sure your hair dryer and other technology are in good working order and someone attractive to the eye. If these are an eye sore then you are going to turn people off. Make sure you clean all brushes every night. Have you ever had a hair in your food? It is just as gross to see another persons hair on your brush or other tools.
Look at the other salons in your local area and find out what they are doing to create business. Out do your competition and always stay ahead of the curve. It is one way for sure to retain your customers.
